Auras 101

What is an Aura?

An aura, also known as an auric field or energy field ​can be understood as a person's electromagnetic energy field. The aura represents our physical, emotional, psychological and spiritual energies. Auras can be different colours and they have unique ways of behaving. An aura is often described as a halo that surrounds the head, however it also extends all around the body. ​

An aura is made up of 7 different layers and each layer is affiliated with 1 of the 7 chakras: 

• Etheric Layer - Root Chakra
• Emotional Layer - Sacral Chakra 
• Mental Layer - Solar Plexus Chakra 
• Astral Layer - Heart Chakra 
• Etheric Template - Throat Chakra 
• Celestial Layer - Pineal "3rd Eye" Chakra 
• Spiritual/Ketheric Layer - Crown Chakra 

How big is an aura? 

• A normal aura will range approx. 3-5 feet, or arm's length (bearing in mind there is a lot of debate regarding size)
• A large aura can indicate that you want to control/dominate others or that you are spreading yourself too thin 
• A small aura can indicate fear at some level and wanting to retreat into oneself to avoid attracting attention 
• An almost absent aura can indicate you are "checking out" of your body or not being present in everyday life 

Fluctuation in your aura: 

• Your aura can be a different shade of colour
  • Eg. Dark blue, light blue, royal blue, cloudy blue
• Your aura can change colour and size for a variety of reasons:
  • Fluctuation in physical, emotional, psychological and/or spiritual health 
  • Sickness, disease and trauma 
  • Pregnancy 
• Below is a diagram of the aura's defense mechanism (source unknown)
  • As shown, an aura can penetrate, attract, withdraw, drain, be prickly or even try dominate others 

Can I only have one aura colour? 
No, you can have more than one. Most people have one or two aura colours, which are sometimes referred to as life colours. Your life colours are often described as your primary and secondary aura colours. 

How many different Aura colours are there? 
So, so many! Just to name a few:
Red

• Hard workers, physical, sexual, concerned with material realm and primal needs

Tan

• According to Pamela Oslie, founder of www.auracolors.com, there are 4 subtypes of Tan auras: logical, environmental, sensitive and abstract
• Generally speaking they are logical, analytical, detail-oriented, resistant to change in routine 

Orange

• Thrill-seekers, creative, like to feel challenged, very independent 

Yellow

• Playful, fun loving, optimistic, kind, independent, can be people pleasers 

Green

• Quick mental processes, concerned with growth and change. Can be drawn to money, power and business 

Blue

• Healers, communicators, sensitive, emotional, can be highly intuitive and psychic
• Place importance on relationships

Violet

• Visionary, drawn to entertainment business, the arts (artists, photographers, musicians, directors, actors etc), politics or the law
• Have always felt they were destined to do something profound or be famous

Indigo

• Lead authentic lives, highly intuitive, old souls, can by psychic, importance based on soul to soul connection

Magenta

• True non-conformists, like to shock others, offbeat, eccentric, don't  care what others think, often they are artists
• Very rare 

Crystal 

• ​Clear aura/aura chameleon: aura changes to match the colour of those they're around, can be healers. Sensitive, spiritual
• Very rare

​Do other aura colours exist? 
Yes! 

Ways to discover what colour your aura is: 

• Consult an energy reader who specialises in Aura Reading 
• Kirlian photography 
• Guided meditation (there are many on YouTube)
• Your own personal meditation, if you feel confident/are experienced enough
• Simply ask the universe to show you a sign of what colour is your aura and keep an eye out for seeing repeating colours
• Tarot/Oracle card reading
